A Greener Clean – Vinegar & Castile soap

All of the makers of commercial cleaners like to convince us that we need 20 different products to keep our houses clean.  Many of those products are bad for our bodies, children, pets, the environment, and even our septic tank! In the spirit of minimalism, using less plastic, saving money, and using fewer chemicals, lets take a look at two alternatives; vinegar and castile soap spray.

Whats on the Table: Arugula

Two types of Arugula (also known as rocket, rucola, roquette) grow very easily in the Caribbean.  Both are pungently peppery, especially when the weather is hot and dry.  They make a fine addition to salads, avocado, and cooked dishes.  While both are members of the Brassicaceae (mustard) family and require similar growing conditions, there are some differences that might help you choose one over the other.   Both are ready to begin harvesting within a month.

About Us

Living a greener lifestyle is a constant work in progress.  We are always learning, always evolving, and always striving to make small steps towards a more sustainable lifestyle.

Most changes can’t be made overnight, but every little bit helps.

We hope to inspire you to:

Reduce your waste
‘Reduce, reuse, recycle’.   It starts with the choices we make and the products we buy.  If we reduce the waste that comes into our homes, it will be easier to reuse (repair / fix / re-purpose) what we have and recycle (or compost) what is left over.

Grow!
It doesn’t matter if it is just one pot of basil, gardening is good for the soul.  Growing food can encourage us to try new things and carefully consider the food we put on the table. Continue reading “About Us”

Welcome To Green SXM

Whether you call St Maarten & Sint Martin home for a lifetime, a week, or even a day, Green SXM hopes to inspire you to make the best choices for the environment both in SXM and the world at large.

The island has recently gone through an unscheduled rebirth in the form of hurricane Irma in September 2017.  While she caused untold destruction, nature came back first and with great abundance, and the island is slowly catching up.  All business, foundations, and activities featured here are currently active and many are working hard towards a sustainable future with eco-conscious tourism at its core.
